DTIC: The Defense Technical Information Center

The Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) is the repository for the research prepared under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Defense. As stated in its mission statement, "DTIC's mission is to aggregate and fuse science and technology data to rapidly, accurately and reliably deliver the knowledge needed to develop the next generation of technologies to support our Warfighters and help ensure national security." 

DTIC has served the information needs of the defense community for over 75 years, and operates as a DoD Field Activity, reporting to the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering USD(R&E). More than 50 percent of DTIC's research records are available through their R&E Gateway, an access-controlled repository available to all authorized DoD personnel, defense contractors, federal government personnel and contractors, and select academic institutions. A Common Access Card is required for registration and logging in. Unclassified, Unlimited information is available to the public via the discover.dtic.mil web site.
